FLORIDA EQUIPMENT BREAKDOWN CLAIMS

A breakdown stops
the operation.
Not the next step.

Make sense of the damage, the downtime, and the policy. Julio Ortega helps policyholders build a clear, supported equipment breakdown claim.

CLARITY WHEN SYSTEMS FAIL

A failed component.
A much bigger picture.

When a chiller, electrical system, boiler, compressor, or production machine fails, the impact can travel through the whole operation. Repair costs are only one part of the story.

Julio C. Ortega of Active Claim Adjusters LLC helps policyholders document the loss and present their claim. The review connects the technical findings, the policy language, and the financial records—without assuming that every failure or expense is insured.

CLAIM SITUATIONS

Understand what failed.
Document what followed.

The equipment, cause, and purchased coverage determine which parts of the loss can be considered.

01

Mechanical systems

Compressors, pumps, boilers, chillers, and production machinery may need technical diagnosis to distinguish a breakdown from gradual deterioration.

02

Electrical systems

Motors, panels, transformers, and related equipment can produce complex claims. Preserve the technician’s findings and the sequence of events.

03

Refrigeration & spoilage

If a covered breakdown affects temperature-controlled goods, inventory and temperature records may help support a spoilage claim where that coverage applies.

04

Interrupted operations

Business income, extra expense, temporary equipment, and expediting costs may be relevant when included in the policy. Keep costs and timing clearly separated.

THE POLICY COMES FIRST

Breakdown coverage is
not a maintenance plan.

A machine that stops working is not, by itself, proof of an insured loss. Equipment breakdown coverage may address certain sudden mechanical or electrical failures, while maintenance, wear, corrosion, or gradual deterioration may be excluded. The actual wording and cause matter.

Get practical answers

Coverage & equipment

Locate the equipment breakdown policy or endorsement and identify the affected insured equipment.

Cause & condition

Keep diagnostic reports, failed parts where safe and appropriate, maintenance history, and relevant operating records.

Time & expense

Document shutdown, repair, testing, and reopening dates along with invoices and temporary measures.

Income & inventory

Retain sales and financial records, production data, and any affected stock records for applicable coverage review.

AFTER THE LOSS

The strongest starting point?
A complete record.

Download the checklist
  • Put safety first. Have qualified professionals isolate, inspect, and repair unsafe equipment.
  • Photograph affected components when safe; retain service reports, fault codes, and maintenance records.
  • Record when operations stopped, what was affected, and when service was restored.
  • Keep separate repair, temporary equipment, spoilage, and operating-expense records. Notify the insurer promptly.

A PRACTICAL APPROACH

From uncertainty
to an organized claim.

Clear records. A careful policy review. Representation of the insured’s interests.

  1. 01

    Understand the event

Discuss what failed, the operating impact, and the status of any reported claim.

  2. 02

    Connect the evidence

Review policy terms alongside technical reports, repair estimates, and relevant financial records.

  3. 03

    Present the claim

If representation is agreed, Julio helps document, present, and negotiate the insured’s position.

BEFORE WE TALK

Your questions.
Clear starting points.

A claim is specific to its facts and coverage. These answers help you prepare for the conversation.

Is equipment breakdown the same as a standard property claim?

Not necessarily. Equipment breakdown coverage may be a separate policy or an endorsement, with its own definitions, insured equipment, exclusions, limits, and deductibles. A full policy review helps identify the applicable coverage.

Is ordinary wear and tear covered?

Do not assume it is. Maintenance, wear, corrosion, and gradual deterioration may be excluded. The cause of the loss and any resulting damage must be assessed under the actual policy wording and technical findings.

Can lost income or spoiled goods be part of the claim?

They may be, when the purchased coverage and loss circumstances support them. Limits, waiting periods, and other conditions can apply. Keep financial, inventory, and temperature records rather than assuming those costs are included.

Should repairs wait until the claim is resolved?

Safety and necessary mitigation come first. Follow policy duties, involve qualified professionals, notify the insurer, and discuss inspection and documentation before nonemergency work when practical. Keep photographs, invoices, and relevant components where safe and appropriate.

Can Julio help after a denial or a disputed estimate?

You can contact him to discuss the insurer’s position and the supporting documents. Whether representation is appropriate depends on the policy, evidence, deadlines, and any agreement already signed. No payment or outcome is promised.

Does this include technical repair or legal advice?

The service is public adjusting for the policyholder. Technical diagnosis and repair belong with qualified equipment professionals; legal issues belong with an attorney. The scope and fees for claim representation are explained in a written agreement.
